New video from I Am In Love

Young up and comers I Am In Love have been getting a lot of buzz recently, gaining fans from BBC Radio 1 presenters such as Edith Bowman and Greg James, performing to huge crowds at summer festivals Kendal Calling, Summer Sundae, Y Not festival and a headline tour in Germany and judging by this video for 'Call Me An Animal', taken from their forthcoming EP, it's easy to see why.

It's a lovely slice of dark, electro indie, reminiscent of The Cure (always going to be a winner at E&D towers) and nods in the direction of Wild Beasts.

Esmerine release new video & October tour dates‏

In support of their recent album on Constellation, 'La Lechuza', Esmerine will embark on a UK tour this October. They have released a video to help promote the UK shows which can be viewed here:

Esmerine: UK Tour Promo 2011 from Constellation Records on Vimeo.

Here are the dates and touring line up info:

19 Sept Stereo, Glasgow
20 Sept Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
21 Sept Union Chapel, London

The touring line up is as follows:

Rebecca Foon - cello (Silver Mt. Zion)
Bruce Cawdron - marimba, percussion (Godspeed You! Black Emperor)
Sarah Pagé - harp (Lhasa de Sela, Barr Brothers)
Jamie Thompson - percussion (Islands, Unicorns)

With live lightbox projections by Clea Minaker
http://cleaminaker.wordpress.com/
(Responsible for live visuals for Feist tours 2008-2009)

Esmerine enters its second decade with an expanded line-up and a new album – the band's first in six years. As a duo co-founded ten years ago by percussionist Bruce Cawdron (Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and cellist Beckie Foon (Thee Silver Mt. Zion), Esmerine released two critically-acclaimed albums of modern chamber music in 2003 and 2005 that had one foot in the new music/experimental terrain of contemporaries like Rachel's or Town And Country and the other in a more visceral and lyrical landscape populated by the likes of Dirty Three (and GY!BE themselves).

Bruce and Beckie have continued stoking the embers of Esmerine, with occasional special events in their Montreal home town over the past few years, often including invitations to guest musicians. While Esmerine had made deft use of guest players on previous records, their performances over the past two years opened the band up to two new musicians in particular who were invited to join as full members: harp-player Sarah Page ( The Barr Brothers) and percussionist Andrew Barr (The Slip, Land of Talk, The Barr Brothers).

The War On Drugs Release New Video & Free MP3

Philadelphia’s The War On Drugs have released a brand new video for the charging, triumphant album track ‘Come To The City’ plus giving away a free download of the track.

Ahead of the release of ‘Slave Ambient’, The War On Drugs’ sophomore album of mile-high rock anthems, due out August 15 on Secretly Canadian, the band have teamed up with Urban Outfitters for this hazy promo clip. The video follows an LA gang doing some wilding on the outskirts of the sprawling metropolis.

Bearsuit - Video for new single "Princess You're a Test"‏

Dark, relentless and thickly laden with dirty, heavy bass, 'Princess You’re A Test' sees Norwich 5-piece Bearsuit take a turn to the dark side. As the fourth single from their recent album 'The Phantom Forest' (released on Fortuna POP! earlier this year) 'Princess You’re A Test' is an altogether darker proposition. Guaranteed to set the indie-disco dancefloors ablaze, the song delves into the mysteries lying await in the phantom forest. Watch the brand new (slightly spooky) video for the song here:

Bearsuit are about to embark on their first tour across mainland Europe, stopping at the Contempopranea and Razzmatazz festivals in Spain as well as Sweden’s Cosy Den festival among others.

Videos from The Sound Of Arrows

Swedish duo, and alleged Madonna botherers, The Sound Of Arrows have not one but two videos for your delectation and amusement.

The first is for their new single, which was out on Monday (25th), called 'Magic'.
Set in a world where all the adults have disappeared, the colourful 4 minute epic video brings to mind the enchanting mystery of Del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth” and the playful imagination of Pixar’s creations. It’s “Where The Wild Things Are” meets “The Neverending Story”, and every bit as fantastical, beguiling, and eye-poppingly stunning as that sounds.

As if that isn't enough, they've given us this lovely mini-doc on how the video was made:

The Sound of Arrows play the following festival dates this summer:

July 01 Blissfields Festival Winchester
July 15 Melt Festival Germany
July 16 Lovebox Festival London
Aug 18 Pukkelpop Festival Belgium

Haunting new acoustic session from O'Death & 'Outside' is out now!‏

Following the release of the single ‘Bugs’ last week, O’Death’s album ‘Outside’ is out now through City Slang! After an extended hiatus, the band have returned with this stunning release, and if that wasn’t enough, the band recorded a live session back in March, and you can see it now.

Produced by Billy Pavone whose previous clients have includedThe Fall, Asobi Seksu and White Rabbits; ‘Outside’ is the most impressive album of the band's career. After recording for two months – their longest recording stint yet – they’ve created a record that is both the most subtle and massive accomplishment of the band's career, a darkly triumphant and free-flowing album that represents exactly where the songwriters have found themselves in this moment.

You can watch the band performing tracks from ‘Outside’ for Violitionist in Texas by following the links below:

Pontiak - Free mp3 and video from 'Comecrudos'

Pontiak's 'Comecrudos', which is due for release on Thrill Jockey in June 2011, was created as a soundtrack to the bold landscape the band encountered on a drive from Phoenix to the Big Bend area of Texas. The brothers; Van, Lain, and Jennings, were captivated by the sprawling landscape, the immensity and complexity of the geology and the beauty. They camped in an old volcano crater under a full moon and hiked ridges alongside the Rio Grande. Comecrudos is a soundtrack for the drive on Route 385 southbound from Marathon, Texas.

The band recommends listening to the album whilst driving, windows rolled down, music at full volume, the dust hanging in the air. Or on the subway - imagining you are in a car driving with the widows rolled down, music at full volume, the dust hanging in the air.

You can grab a sneak preview in the form of a free mp3 here.

EMA's new video & free download

After a packed out and incredibly well received debut UK show at London’s Macbeth last night (May 11) EMA, the new project from ex-GOWNS singer/guitarist Erika M. Anderson, has uploaded the surreal video for her digital free release single ‘Milkman’.

Taken from her album, ‘Past Life Martyred Saints’, released this week on Souterrain Transmissions, the video for 'Milkman' was directed by William Rahilly and perfectly reflects the creative, unusual and inspiring approach to song-writing that has seen this debut album critically lauded on both sides of the Atlantic.

White Hills - new video from forthcoming album 'H-P1‏'

E&D faves White Hills have a new album, 'H-p1' out on 20 June through Thrill Jockey.

Musically, H-p1, White Hills' second full-length for Thrill Jockey, expands on the explorations of previous albums in ambience, noise, and space rock all led by guitarist Dave W.'s blistering guitar solos. This is the most fully realized White Hills album to date and the one that takes them furthest from their pure space rock roots. It is also their most angry record. It is a reaction to what White Hills sees as government co-opted and controlled by corporations.

Get a taster of what to expect here:

White Hills - The Condition of Nothing from Thrill Jockey Records on Vimeo.

Sparrow and the Workshop - 'Snakes in the Grass' video taken from new album 'Spitting Daggers'‏

Sparrow and the Workshop will be releasing their new album ‘Spitting Daggers’ on May 23 through Distiller Records. The album was produced and mixed at the new recording studio, The Distillery, by Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno / Sam Amidon). ‘Snakes in the Grass’ will be the first single and is also released on May 23; the album will be available on CD and download.

The band comprises of Belfast born, Chicago-raised Jill O’Sullivan (vocals/guitar/violin), Welshman Nick Packer (guitar/bass) and Scotsman Gregor Donaldson (drums/vocals.) Jill's voice has developed into a powerhouse of flexibility, allowing her to soar from keening Sandy Denny-esque tones to sensual peaks you're more likely to expect from PJ Harvey. With Gregor providing vocal harmonies alongside drumming and percussion duties, and Nick playing guitar and bass and an instrument combining the two affectionately referred to as the 'basstard'.
